Belcarra's Composite Function Framework allows an OMAP34xx embedded device to utilize multiple different types of USB Functions, composite configuration combinations of Networking, Mass Storage , Serial emulation, and vendor-specific USB Functions. Each of these would appear to a Windows system as a USB Device separate and independent from the others.

Belcarra Technologies, a leading developer of USB software and device driver solutions, today announced the release of their Windows compatible Hi-Speed USB Composite Function Framework (USB-CFF) for the Texas Instruments OMAP34xx processor.

Belcarra's Composite Function Framework allows an OMAP34xx embedded device to utilize multiple different types of USB Functions, offering composite configuration combinations of Networking, Mass Storage and Serial emulation, and a vendor-specific USB Function. Each of these would appear to a Windows system as a USB Device separate and independent from the others.

Hi-Speed USB features a maximum data rate of 440Mbps, a forty-fold improvement over "full-speed" USB. The bottleneck is thereby transferred away from the USB link itself to the supply of data, and this is where the high-performance OMAP shows its strength.

"While today's mobile devices may support many modes of local connectivity, USB remains essential to large scale data transfer because, unlike the alternatives, it can draw power from the USB host and does not need to employ encryption to ensure secure data transfer. While other local connectivity solutions, such as Bluetooth, IrDA and WiFi may interest some users, USB remains the sole connectivity solution used by the bulk of the user base for communicating with desktop PC's because of its low cost, simplicity and ability to provide power. Belcarra's USB solutions provide cellular phone and other smart handheld device manufacturers' superior performance flexibility and compatibility." states Bruce Balden, President of Belcarra.

Belcarra's Linux USB Framework allows an OEM to fully realize the power of the OMAP3430's powerful Mentor Graphics™ USB subsystem. Belcarra Technologies USB software, professional services and systems integration expertise keeps development costs down for OEM's, reduces development risks and time-to-market. In particular, the careful partitioning of the layers in USB-CFF significantly reduces the complexity of individual functions, simplifies system management capabilities and allows easy portability to new architectures and operating systems. By adding OMAP3430 support to its Linux USB Reference Implementation, Belcarra reinforces its position as a leading supplier of USB solutions for embedded systems.
