Brave Damselfly Fights to Save Her Race in Best-Selling Celtic Mythology Novel
Jayel Gibson's new fantasy book "Damselflies: An Ancient Mirrors Tale" tells the legend of the magical and mystical creatures known as damselflies, with an otherworldly tale that's also filled with relevant lessons for modern life.
Port Orford, OR (PRWEB) November 19, 2007 -- Arcinaë, the last of the Damselflies--a winged race of enchanted beings--must put aside her gentle nature and fight for her life and the lives of her unborn children in Jayel Gibson's latest novel, "Damselflies: An Ancient Mirrors Tale" (ISBN 9781933538648, Synergy Books, 2007).
During pre-sales, "Damselflies" hit No. 1 on Amazon.com's Celtic Mythology bestseller list and won a 2007 Writer's Digest International Book Awards Honorable Mention. "Damselflies" will also be featured in the March/April 2008 issue of Writer's Digest.
Gibson cites her easily relatable characters as the main reason for "Damselflies" popularity. "Damselflies" is the third book in Gibson's "Ancient Mirrors" series; it introduces a host of new characters and places, while resolving some issues from the series' previous books. In "Damselflies," Celtic mythology and Arthurian legend blend together seamlessly to create an incredible fantasy world, where Arcinaë lives, hunted by powerful human warlords who've attempted to obliterate the Damselfly population.
The warlords' fear of a race different than their own led them to this brutal violence. Arcinaë survived only due to magick and the kindness of an embittered nobleman named Ilerion. Ilerion and his fiercely loyal manservant, Nilus, aid Arcinaë, ensuring her safety. The love story within "Damselflies" results in Arcinaë and Ilerion's Halfling children, who fulfill an important legend and carry the second half of the novel.
Arcinaë and Ilerion's daughters are J'yorie and A'Janae. One is a warrior, born without the Damselfly wings and therefore able to hide her controversial lineage. The other is a mistress of diplomacy, a warrior with words, born with the recognizable and endangered Damselfly wings. Spanning two generations, "Damselflies" sweeps readers into a tangled web of twisted legends and broken promises, desire and deception, fear and fallacy, and the endless struggle to control the minds of humankind.
