Selling Rock Singles, Saving Darfur, and Helping Aids Orphans One Song at a Time

Andrew Dudum, a Wharton freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, beat out pro acts to headline at the Penn campus "Rock the Mic for Darfur concert" which raised money for the Darfur Alert Coalition, and the concert-goers appreciated Dudum's talent.

Pennsylvania, PA (PRWEB) November 27, 2007 -- Andrew Dudum, the 19-year-old singer/songwriter from San Francisco, California is at it again. This time, he's performing and selling rock singles to help save Darfur.

Dudum, a Wharton freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, beat out pro acts to headline at the Penn campus "Rock the Mic for Darfur concert" which raised money for the Darfur Alert Coalition.
And concert-goers appreciated Dudum's talent last Friday night. "This was the greatest concert," Engineering freshman Ostap Tymchuk said of Friday's concert.

A local artist would have cost between $300 and $700. Dudum played his soft rock and soft pop music for free, and sold his CD's after the show, donating half of the proceeds to the Darfur charity.

Earlier this year, Dudum and high school classmate Rocco Bovo collaborated on "Children of the World" to help benefit the Tanzanian AIDS orphan project at St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco.

"Children of the World" has ballad-style lyrics and music performed by Dudum interlaced with rap lyrics performed by Bovo. Both students hope that "Children of the World" helps listeners make a connection with children dying of AIDS on a far-off continent and motivate them to respond to the crisis.

Dudum and his father, Richard, a San Francisco lawyer, real estate broker, and author, had been working together for almost a year recording and producing Dudum's debut CD "Fly With Me" which was released in February 2007.

"Fly With Me," contains 10 songs that Dudum wrote over the past two years. In addition to writing the music and lyrics, he played acoustic and electric guitar, bass and cello on the CD. His father accompanied him on piano and keyboards. Dudum and his father mixed the album at their home studio. The songs are available at DudumRecords.com and on iTunes, and the response to date has been overwhelming.

A veteran musician, Dudum has played cello since he was 8, just before joining the Golden Gate Philharmonic Orchestra. At 10 he was a founding member of the Presto International Quartet, which performed at private and public events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. At 12 he joined the Villa Sinfonia Orchestra and performed at venues including Carnegie Hall; in 2003, he toured with that group throughout Europe. At 13, he began performing cello on the streets of San Francisco during summers and holidays and shortly thereafter taught himself to play guitar.

In his high school junior year, Dudum wrote the song "Fall From Grace" in memory of his high school classmate. The Villa Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra performed an orchestral version of "Fall From Grace" earlier this year, featuring Dudum's solo on cello.

Dudum found crossing from classical to rock a natural progression. "My classical background gave me the foundation to write pop and rock songs because I understand how songs are structured. Playing in orchestras also gave me the confidence to perform on stage and to produce my CD."

Dudum has also released two singles in the past month "For Me" and "Love is All."

Dudum is a musician with talent and heart. His music is available at Dudumrecords.com, CDbaby.com, and on iTunes.
