MyMedLab Launches New Direct to Consumer Lab Portal Complete With Free Personal Health Record

New site allows consumers to have access to a wide range of wellness tests and privately store their health information along side their lab results.

Joplin, MO (PRWEB) November 27, 2007 -- MyMedLab today announced the release of their new Direct to Consumer laboratory web site that provides consumers with direct access to a wide variety of health and wellness lab tests organized into custom health profiles. The new service allows consumers to directly order laboratory tests online, pay with a credit card, and then share results with their trusted health advisors in a secure environment. The provision of laboratory tests directly to consumers is another example of the growing influence of the consumer movement within health care.

Laboratory tests play a critical role in measuring and monitoring individual health and wellness. Lab test results identify or confirm the diagnosis of approximately 70% of all illnesses. In addition, the value of monitoring wellness and chronic diseases has increased with the movement toward electronic medical records. Enabling consumers to directly purchase lab tests can establish a health baseline, increase the effectiveness of wellness programs, and makes the interactions with trusted health providers more efficient. While direct- to-consumer lab testing has been available for more than a decade, broad access to the web has now changed the way consumers use the Internet to manage health conditions.
