New Children's Story an Effective Tool on Tolerance for Teachers and Parents

Visually stunning artwork and playful prose tell the proud tale of a family’s diversity.

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) November 27, 2007 -- Toco the Toucan’s first adventure, You Can Do What A Toucan Can Do Too! If Toco Can So Can You lovingly illustrates the tale of Toco the Toucan, the little toucan who couldn’t fly—and how all the other school birds make fun of him. It’s not until his mother consoles him and shares their family history that he learns to take pride in himself and his diversity. It’s a timeless story about being different and building self-esteem.

The new children’s book, available via Blurb, the creative book publishing service, is an effective teaching tool on tolerance for teachers and parents.

"Being a 5th grade school teacher and a mother of two young children, I understand the importance of teaching tolerance and building self-confidence," says Danielle Chamberlain, a teacher in the Tracy Unified School District (CA). "'You Can Do What A Toucan Can Do Too!' is one of my favorite books that helps me do just that. I recommend it to parents and teachers alike."

The following excerpt of the book includes all too familiar situations when children are made fun of:

"Toco the Toucan he had a bad day
How the other birds teased him
When he hopped at fly play

He flapped his poor wings with all of his might
But no matter his flutter
He could not take flight..."

A complete 15-page preview of Toco’s tale is available online.

"I grew up getting picked on like everyone else and was fortunate to have a loving, supportive mother who helped me get through it," says Kevin Grossman, the story’s author. "Years later, after I met my artist friend Jerry Tanner and experienced his vivid and imaginative toucan artwork for the first time, it inspired me to write Toco’s story for anyone who’s ever doubted their self-worth."

The new children’s book is a perfect balance of visually stunning artwork and playful prose for all ages. "You Can Do What A Toucan Can Do Too! If Toco Can So Can You" can be ordered online at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/109053 just in time for the holidays.
