Historically Significant Custom Firearms of the 1900s on Display -- 2008 Firearms Engravers and Gunmakers Exhibition -- January 25 - 27 Reno, NV
Included in a major display of 1900s custom guns will be the Olympic-winning .22 from the 1908 Olympics. Several private collections will be available for viewing, firearms from the plainly practical to the lavishly ornate.
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) November 30, 2007 -- This is definitely the exhibition not to be missed, the one and only time in 2008 when the finest in modern quality engraved and custom made firearms will be on display.
A special display celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild (ACGG) will include an Olympic-winning .22 from the 1908 Olympics, a Krag sporter owned by Townsend Whelen and a one-of-a-kind National Match Springfield stocked by Seymour Griffin. Some of the greatest stockmakers of the early 20th century will be represented including Fred Adolf, John Dubiel, R.G. Owen, John Roberts, Thomas Shelhammer, Ludwig Wundhammer, Kirkwood, Pope and Zischang.
Another highlight commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the ACGG will be the raffle Sunday of the "North American Classic Hunting Rifle". The team of Ralf Martini and Martin Hagn collaborated with engraver Marty Rabeno and built this classic .300 Winchester Mag. rifle in tribute to the great struggle of life and death in the wild. "The raffle of the "North American Classic Hunting Rifle" allows someone a chance to own a custom firearm that might not be able to afford to have one commissioned," commented current ACGG President Al Lind.
In 1985 the ACGG and the Firearms Engravers Guild of America (FEGA) decided to join efforts and present a venue to showcase the work of their memberships. FEGA President Rex Pedersen eloquently states, "A perfect marriage between metal and wood."
FEGA was founded in 1981 to serve many purposes. The established objectives are to provide opportunities for engravers to exchange ideas and knowledge, to assist in improving individual skills, to promote firearm engraving as an art form, and to raise public interest and appreciation in quality firearms engraving.
The American Custom Gunmakers Guild was formed in 1983 with the purpose of creating a viable association of craftspeople actively engaged in custom gunmaking (stockmaking, metalsmithing and related areas) for the exchange of ideas, views, techniques, to increase public awareness and appreciation for fine quality custom firearms and to generally advance custom gunmaking as an accepted art form.
Both Guilds will present seminars on Monday, January 28th on various technical topics such as ribbon checkering, stock thru-bolt demonstration, Bulino engraving, metal raised inlaying and acid etching techniques.
The exhibition is open to the general public allowing everyone to enjoy the finest quality in custom rifles, handguns and shotguns made by America's leading individual craftsmen and engravers. Members of the Firearms Engravers Guild and the American Custom Gunmakers Guild will exhibit their latest creations at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno, NV. Hours for the exhibition are Friday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
