On December 6th from noon to 3:00pm, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) will be hosting an Open House/Dedication Event to celebrate the ongoing revitalization of the Shepherd’s Cove shelter for women and children. Happy Places = Happy Faces, a non-profit dedicated to revitalizing children’s spaces in the community, has developed and coordinated the complete redesign of this two-story facility. The Open House Luncheon will feature inspiring tours, a salute to corporate sponsors and a presentation of future sponsorship opportunities.

UCAP’s Shepherd’s Cove is one of the largest shelters in Prince George’s County, offering emergency housing and comprehensive social services for women and children. In 2006, the shelter served over 800 women and children. Happy Places = Happy Faces organizers chose to makeover this former elementary school to ensure that residents could live in a warm and inviting space that not only supported their efforts to become self sufficient, but also enhanced their sense of self worth.

UCAP invites all media outlets, Washington Area businesses, civic organizations and the general public to join in this revitalization celebration and continued effort.
