SDN Global Introduces PSAT™

Mobile solution provides satellite backup for life-critical E911 Call Center Infrastructure.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) December 3, 2007 -- SDN Global (www.sdnglobal.com) announced the availability of a new suite of products designed specifically to address the functional continuity of E911 (Enhanced 911) Public Safety Answering Points (“PSAP”).

“911 call centers and the critical telecommunications infrastructure that supports them have proven to be vulnerable in recent years. Shortly after landfall of hurricane Katrina two years ago, thirty-eight 911 call centers went down. A full month after landfall, two of these call centers remained inoperable,” said Larry Jones, President and CEO of SDN Global. “The exposure to the public’s safety is immeasurable. These are the times when the 911 call center is needed most, and unfortunately a time when they are most vulnerable. Natural disasters are not the leading root cause of service interruption to 911 systems however. Routine interruptions to the critical circuits that connect the 911 call centers to the public represent a more frequent cause of 911 call center failure.”

PSAT™ (an acronym for “Public Safety Access Terminal”) is offered in a broad range of packaging, from the design and build of turnkey Mobile Communications Command Vehicles to integration of the service into existing vehicles or fixed facilities. All packaging options are serviced via SDN Global’s existing worldwide broadband satellite voice/data/video network.

Sources confirmed that one of the early adopters of PSAT™ is the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Lee County 911 Program, a Division of Lee County Public Safety.

“With the hurricanes of recent years and the potential for other natural and manmade disasters we realized we needed to have more than one backup 911 plan. PSAT™ provides us with a mobile communications center that can be brought online in less than an hour and stood up as a true 911 Public Safety Answering Point. PSAT™ provides us the assurance that should our primary 911 communications center and our backup center become inoperable we can stand up a mobile system in a short amount of time,” said Captain Richard Schnieders, Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “By combining the mobile command post needs and the mobile communications center needs into one vehicle we are able to have a second backup 911 location as well as a mobile communications/command center to handle the needs of large scale responses to natural disasters and criminal events. The PSAT™ provides VOIP phones independent of the 911 system as well as broadband data speeds connectivity back to our Law Enforcement data systems. This vehicle will see frequent use as a mobile communications/command center.”
