Page Turner Authors are Poised for Success
FaithWriters.com and Finesse Writing and Editing Service announce the winners of their inaugural Page Turner Writing Contest.
Livonia, MI (PRWEB) December 10, 2007 -- After 11 months of nail-biting suspense, the winners of the first FaithWriters.com/Finesse Writing and Editing Service "Page Turner Contest" have at last been announced, with the 1st prize, and champion status, going to J.C. Lamont for her epic novel, Prophecy of the Heir.
The 2007 Page Turner Writing Contest began on January 1, with the focus for the year being fiction. Entrance to the competition was open to all members of the FaithWriters 500 (members who have committed to help support FaithWriters.com financially), and over 50 submissions were received before entries closed on June 30. Each entry comprised of a synopsis, outlining the planned storyline overall, together with the first chapter of the manuscript. Judging was based on the strength of both these elements.
Deborah Porter, owner of Finesse Writing and Editing Service, and longtime supporter of FaithWriters, admits she wasn't prepared for the standard of entries the contest received. "The main goal of the contest was to spur authors on to write their dream novel, and in the process, find the entries that have the greatest potential for publication. Although I thought there may be a handful of entries with that potential, I was stunned by just how many were really quite excellent. I wanted to keep reading most of them, which is exactly what being a page turner is all about."
As well as Ms. Lamont's 1st place win, there were two runners up: Sarah Whitaker for her novel, The Raggedyman, and Lynda Schab, with Mind Over Madi.
Entries to the 2007 contest spanned a wide range of genres, including everything from historical fiction and romance through to cutting edge science fiction and thrillers. The three winning entries, alone, were from three very different genres. Ms. Lamont's Prophecy of the Heir is an epic Christian fantasy; Ms. Whitaker's The Raggedyman is a dark Christian thriller, and Ms. Schab's Mind Over Madi is a lighthearted, humorous story from the growing "mom lit" genre.
Mrs. Porter stated that the very broad variety of genres represented in the Page Turner entries is indicative of just how large the Christian fiction field is these days. "Christian authors are really breaking out of the box, and ultimately, that's a great thing for readers. Our three winners would probably have been considered too 'out there' in the past, but at FaithWriters we've seen that many Christian readers are now looking for this type of material. Even better, although written specifically for Christian readers, many of the books submitted to this year's Page Turner contest will appeal to non-Christians as well, and that has to be a good thing."
As the 2007 Page Turner Champion, Ms. Lamont will receive:
| | - Free editing of her Prophecy of the Heir manuscript;
- An $800 cash prize;
- Free publicity and marketing of her book on all FaithWriters' sites (including FaithWriters' Magazine) for 12 months, after publication;
- A press release to promote Prophecy of the Heir when it is published; and
- A special "Page Turner Champion" award plaque.

The two Page Turner runners up for 2007 will also receive award plaques and the offer of half-price editing for their winning manuscripts.
