Breakthrough represents the firm's latest VBG® advancement.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently granted PD-LD, Inc., the worldwide leader in Volume Bragg Grating® (VBG®) technology, a patent that extends the firm's growing portfolio of VBG products and services.

U.S. Patent No. 7,125,632 protects a method of mass producing VBG elements based on separating (or "dicing") a VBG wafer into smaller identical elements with the same properties as the starting wafer.

"The technology represents a significant breakthrough and is largely applicable for RGB lasers for display applications " according to Vladimir Ban, PD-LD President and CEO. "In general, it represents a major step forward for producing large quantities of low cost VBG elements for our customers, and we are proud to exclusively offer this service."

The latest innovation is complimentary to a pair of PD-LD's other recent VBG-related patents: No. 7,248,617 (Use of Volume Bragg Gratings for the Conditioning of Laser Emission Characteristics) and No. 7,248,618 (Systems and Methods for Second Harmonic Generation Using Three- Dimensional Bragg Grating Elements).

"This development enables us to offer a product that meets the cost projections of major display manufacturers " said Neal Stoker, PD-LD Director of Marketing. "Our award-winning and patent-protected technology sets PD-LD apart with a unique set of products and services for the displays, optical communications, sensing, automotive, aerospace, spectroscopy, and medical industries. The advancement demonstrates PD-LD's commitment to grow its VBG portfolio and deliver tangible improvements for our customers."
