St. Onge Co., engineering supply chain firm, announces retirement of founder.

The St. Onge Company, a leading supply chain engineering firm, announced today that Art St. Onge, one of its four founders, who led the company for 22 years, will retire from day-to-day activities at the end of 2007.

In 2005, St. Onge stepped down as president of the company when he and the board confirmed that Mike Jones, a partner in the firm, would become president.

"Art dedicated his life and his talent to our company and the supply chain industry," Jones said.

"Throughout his career, Art's vision and drive were apparent to everyone. Anyone who worked for or associated with him witnessed a genuine spirit of enthusiasm and a collegial sense of cooperation."

When Art started St. Onge Company in 1983, it had four original partners and one employee. Today, the company has 80 employees at its headquarters in York, Pa., and has also established Global Connexion, a consortium of St. Onge and two other consulting firms, with offices in Europe, China and the Middle East.

While Art founded the company on his belief in the potential of material handling automation in the fields of manufacturing and distribution, he also played a key role in expanding St. Onge's capabilities to meet the more sophisticated and evolving needs of the company's clients.

Under Art's leadership, the firm's capabilities would grow to include a broad array of strategic, engineering and operational supply chain services:

  • 1983 -- Design of distribution and manufacturing facilities and systems.
  • 1990 -- Simulation.
  • 1994 -- Operations planning and training.
  • 1996 -- Supply chain network optimization.
  • 2000 -- Institute St. Onge, an online knowledge center for clients.
  • 2001 -- Regional evaluation and commodity flow analysis.
  • 2002 -- Inventory sizing and deployment strategy.
  • 2003 -- 3PL strategy development and selection services.
  • 2004 -- Hospital engineering design services.

While devoting his professional life to the company, Art has still found the time and energy to pursue other interests. He is an avid hiker, has completed the Boston Marathon and has traveled the world. He has also supported many charitable causes, most targeted at improving the lives of at-risk children in the company's home city of York, PA.

Before founding the St. Onge Company, he rose to the presidency of St. Onge, Ruff and Associates, a well-regarded architecture and engineering company. As a member of the U.S. Army, he served as a Tomb Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

Art St. Onge will continue to maintain an office at St. Onge Company, allowing the staff to draw upon his wisdom and experience.
