Nicholson Kovac, Inc. (http://www.nicholsonkovac.com) co-founder Pete Kovac received the 2007 Marketing Communications Professional Development Award, presented by the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) during the annual NAMA Agribusiness Forum in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 14.
Kovac received the award in recognition of his more than 26 years in marketing communications in the agribusiness industry. As the co-founder of Nicholson Kovac, he has served a wide range of agricultural clients, most notably the firm's current client, FMC Corporation. Over the years, additional agribusiness clients have included PPG Industries BioChemicals Group/Valent U.S.A.; International Harvester; Butler Manufacturing; Golden Harvest Seeds; Interstate Seed; DowElanco's United AgriSeeds and Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.
In his acceptance speech, Kovac noted some of the reasons why agribusiness has always played an important role in his career and why it continues to be a key market for Nicholson Kovac.
"To me, agribusiness represents the best of both worlds - it requires a thorough understanding of business-to-business marketing communications disciplines, and the creative savvy and strategic thinking of consumer communications," he said. "Working in agribusiness has allowed me to meet some of the smartest, most creative people in marketing communications and has provided me with some of the most creatively challenging assignments of my career."
Currently, Kovac serves as president and chief executive officer of Nicholson Kovac. His passion and commitment to advertising and marketing communications extends to award-winning leadership. Under his direction, the agency has been named consistently among the nation's top business-to-business agencies and has been recognized twice as the agency of the year by Crain's BtoB Magazine. In 1987, NKH&W (predecessor of today's Nicholson Kovac) was recognized as the first Small Business of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

Kovac began his career as an agency copywriter. He worked on the client side for four years, managing advertising and public relations for Conchemco, Inc. He then returned to the agency world as an executive with Fletcher/Mayo/Associates and Valentine-Radford, before co-founding NKH&W in 1981.
Kovac takes an active leadership role in many professional and community organizations. He sits on the Agency Management Committee of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) and is the past chairman of the AAAA Midwest Council. In addition, he is currently a member of the Board of Advisors for the University of Kansas School of Business.
