Working with MSH to develop the interface between TherapyEdge and RxSolution will be an important milestone for ABL's powerful technology
Cambridge, MA, and Luxembourg (PRWEB) December 7, 2007
TherapyEdge, Inc., and Advanced Biological Laboratories (ABL), S.A., and Management Sciences for Health, Inc. (MSH) today announced the completion of an agreement to develop an interface between ABL's proprietary TherapyEdge and MSH's proprietary RxSolution. Development of an interface between the two software products will allow for a fully integrated IT solution for clinical services and medicines supply management. The interface will also enable the issuance of fully automated global reporting, consistent with existing and future requirements from various stakeholders such as the World Health Organization, (WHO), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Clinton Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In many countries, particularly those that are underdeveloped and resource limited, incongruent delivery of care and management of the supply of medicines and other health care commodities are challenges in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, and other medical conditions. For example, when hospital stocks of medicines for the treatment of HIV or TB infections run behind demand, patient therapy will be interrupted and the risk of the development of drug-resistant TB or HIV dramatically increases.
Integration of IT pharmaceutical management systems, like RxSolution, and patient management systems, like TherapyEdge, is essential for the successful delivery of the comprehensive package of care and optimal healthcare management programs.
TherapyEdge is a comprehensive patient record hospital information system to be used for data management, monitoring and reporting applications. It is already communicating with expert systems for HIV or TB disease management, allowing personalized therapy selection and optimal diagnostic monitoring and evaluation. Through HL7, TherapyEdge has already interfaced with global hospital information systems (HIS) in Europe and Asia and soon in Africa. It can also be combined with the ViroScore Suite sequence database and resistance (HIV and TB) interpretation system to create a powerful clinical patient management system and research tool. It is used in over 75 clinical sites in 35 countries by NGO's, as their primary longitudinal patient record, by government organizations to track program indicators and expenditures, by researchers to learn more about the resistance profiles and by virologists and clinicians to improve the quality of care.
RxSolution is an integrated computerized pharmaceutical management system developed by MSH. This system, which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is used to manage inventory; process purchase orders; handle issues to wards, out/in-patient pharmacy, and satellite clinics; dispense medication to patients; and prepare repeat scripts for down-referral at the facility level (hospital, community health center, primary health care clinic, and district office). RxSolution supports best practices for procurement, storage, distribution, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, helping to ensure availability of critical products at all times. The software is currently widely used in South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland with a total of more than 100 installations.
"Working with MSH to develop the interface between TherapyEdge and RxSolution will be an important milestone for ABL's powerful technology," said Ronan Boulmé, Vice President of Research and Development at TherapyEdge and ABL. "RxSolution is one of the premiere pharmacy management tools available and used, with comprehensive, user-friendly functionalities, which will complement TherapyEdge's patient care management system very well. At TherapyEdge and ABL, substantial efforts are devoted to interface TherapyEdge with strategic information systems from third parties to continue to improve healthcare and patient personalized medicine and care."
ABL and MSH expect to complete integration of the two software products which will allow exchange of data files from one program to the other without manual intervention by summer 2008.
