We have used units on sale now for as low as $3,000, and you can try before you buy. Rentals are also available, and all rental fees are good for the purchase of a Segway, up to $1,000 per unit, per year.

Segway of Oakland is offering a holiday special to new and repeat customers: Those who purchase a new Segway Personal Transporter between now and Dec. 31, 2007 will receive four popular accessories completely free.

The offer includes a lock, comfort mat, reflectivity strips, and a handlebar bag worth a combined retail value of $370. It is valid only on the purchase of new units.

To accommodate an influx of holiday buyers and renters, Segway of Oakland is staying open until 8 p.m. daily until Christmas Day (closed Christmas).

"A Segway is the perfect gift - it is super efficient and a smart solution to rising gas prices," said Segway of Oakland partner Darren Romar. "You can ride it in any weather, it's great in airports, and it works well with public transportation systems like B.A.R.T."

The electric Segway is designed to revolutionize transportation - with extended range through improved battery life - and eliminate gasoline consumption by providing a viable, "green" alternative to the internal combustion engine.

Segway is promoting the holiday offer as a way for new buyers to learn more about the unique, self-balancing machine, and also as an incentive for repeat customers to introduce a friend or loved one to the benefits of ownership.

"You can cover short distances more easily than with a bike and it requires less effort, but it is not effortless," noted Segway of Oakland partner Steve Steinberg. "We have used units on sale now for as low as $3,000, and you can try before you buy. Rentals are also available, and all rental fees are good for the purchase of a Segway, up to $1,000 per unit, per year."
