Infidelity Expert Says Christmas is a Good Time to Catch a Cheating Mate

An infidelity expert reveals that Christmas offers little-known opportunities to find evidence of a cheating spouse or confirm the existence of an extramarital affair. She discusses four circumstances or situations under which signs of infidelity can be found.

(PRWEB) December 18, 2007 -- People rarely associate Christmas with infidelity or extramarital affairs. But according to infidelity expert Ruth Houston, the Christmas season is a good time to catch a cheating mate.

Houston, the founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, says "Christmas offers several opportunities to find evidence of a cheating spouse, or confirm the existence of an affair."

Christmas Gifts
According to Houston, cheating spouses or significant others can be exposed by the gifts they give or receive. Houston says, "If a person knows what to look for or where to look during the Christmas season, they can find tangible evidence of their partner's affair. Gifts purchased for the Other Woman or the Other Man leave a paper trail," says Houston, "regardless of whether they're paid for with cash, check or credit card. ATM slips, bank statements, credit card bills and store receipts often provide valuable clues."

"Sometimes it's a disappearing gift that provides an unsuspecting husband or wife with the first clue that an affair is going on, says Houston. A spouse finds a hidden Christmas gift -- usually a piece of jewelry -- and mistakenly assumes it's for them. Obvious questions arise when the gift mysteriously disappears. Since the didn't receive it, who was it given to?"

"Duplicate gifts are equally suspicious," says Houston. "Questions arise when a spouse discovers two identical gifts, or receipts indicating that two identical items were bought. Why two pairs of diamond earrings, or two identical gold bracelets? It's common to find that an affair partner is the recipient of the second gift."

These are just two the gift-related signs of infidelity that Houston says observant mates find at Christmastime. Houston's popular infidelity book on signs of infidelity has an entire chapter on Gifts, which contains 19 gift-related telltale signs. (Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, Lifestyle Publications, $29.95). The chapters on Financial Affairs and Behavioral Changes also contain many relevant telltale signs.

Changes in Gift-Giving Behavior
"Even changes in a partner's usual gift-giving behavior can be an indication of infidelity," says Houston. "For example, a person may exhibit excessive concern or heightened anxiety over purchasing a gift for an opposite sex co-worker or a supposedly casual friend. Yet they've never shown such extreme behavior when buying a gift for their spouse or significant other."

Office Christmas Parties
Houston advises clients who suspect workplace infidelity to attend the company Christmas party with their spouse or significant other. She explains, "Office Christmas parties present a unique setting in which suspicious mates can either confirm what they suspect, or set their mind at ease. Observing one's spouse or significant other interact socially with opposite sex co-workers will reveal the presence or absence of a workplace affair. If the suspected cheater is romantically involved with someone on their job, their body language and behavior around the affair partner will give them away."

Unusual Behavior on Christmas Day
Houston points out that a cheating spouse will usually communicate with his or her affair partner in some way on Christmas Day, however brief. It may be a phone call, an e-mail, a text message, or even a quick visit to drop off a Christmas gift. Says Houston "I always caution husbands or wives who suspect an extramarital affair to be alert for uncharacteristic behavior on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. This includes whispered phone calls, cryptic conversations, phone calls that require privacy, unexplained absences, and early morning or late night computer use which affords the cheater an opportunity for private e-mail or other internet communication. Especially suspect are hang-ups or wrong numbers on Christmas Day, after which a spouse or significant other leaves on an unspecified errand for an extended length of time."

A Word of Caution
Houston cautions that these Christmas clues of infidelity are not meant to raise suspicions where none exist, nor do these signs alone provide ironclad proof of an extramarital affair. But she points out that if someone has previously found signs of infidelity, the telltale signs found during the Christmas season could provide the final proof that one is dealing with a cheating spouse or significant other who is indeed having an affair.

"These telltale signs are usually just the tip of the infidelity iceberg," says Houston who warns that signs of infidelity never appear in isolation. "Where there's one sign of infidelity, there are usually dozens of other corroborating signs just waiting to be found. Knowing what to look for is the key."

How to Find Additional Proof
For those who need further proof, Houston's website www.InfidelityAdvice.com and her free tip sheets provide a wealth of practical information on signs of infidelity, cheating spouses and extramarital affairs.
