(PRWEB) December 23, 2007 -- The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (FCCG) is pleased to offer assistance this holiday season to individuals adversely affected by gambling by providing one free visit to a certified treatment provider within the State of Florida. The holidays can prove to be the most difficult time of year for persons struggling with a gambling problem and the Florida Council is committed to increasing awareness that recovery is possible for those who seek help.

According to Pat Fowler, Executive Director of the FCCG, "Financial hardships brought on by gambling coupled with the associated pressures of holiday purchasing and the like can be the final straw for many compulsive gamblers before resorting to drastic measures. Many gamblers and their family members suffer from depression, feelings of hopelessness, and in some cases, loved ones may first learn of the problem over the course of the next few days, which will prove particularly devastating, when those around them are celebrating this time of year."

The FCCG's PATS (Preliminary Assessment and Treatment Supports) Program provides residents who call our 24-hour HelpLine (888-ADMIT-IT) with the opportunity to meet with a treatment professional who can assist gamblers and their families in getting their lives back on track. In addition to paying for the first visit, we offer free assistance with financial, legal and other difficulties, commonly experienced by this population and have a range of self-help and professional options depending on the callers needs. The FCCG HelpLine service is available to gamblers, loved ones and others seeking information, assistance, supportive intervention and/or referrals. All calls are free, anonymous and completely confidential. Specialists are available around the clock and can communicate with persons in any language.

"Again, recovery from a gambling problem is possible for those who seek help and could prove to be the best present this holiday season. Help is just one phone call away - 888-ADMIT-IT," concluded Fowler.
