Two films nominated in the Achievement in Cinematography and Achievement in Directing categories, were shot through renowned Cooke S4 Prime lenses.
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) February 2, 2007 -- The much-anticipated nominations for the 79th Annual Academy Awards have just been announced, and two films nominated in the Achievement in Cinematography and Achievement in Directing categories, were shot through renowned Cooke S4 Prime lenses. Cooke Optics, an innovative manufacturer of fine, precision lenses for cinematography and ultra-high-end professional photography, was thrilled to have been specified as the lens of choice for the production of Achievement in Cinematography nominee The Illusionist, and Achievement in Directing nominee United 93. As in years past, Cooke's S4 Prime lenses continue to capture the shots that launch great films to a higher level of cinematographic excellence.
The Illusionist, nominated for Achievement in Cinematography, captures the essence and beauty of early 1900's Vienna with the aid of the Cooke S4 Prime lens. This captivating film is a true love story, adapted from the short story Eisenheim the Illusionist, written by Steven Millhauser. The movie follows the struggle of Eisenheim, a turn of the century magician, played by Edward Norton, who falls in love with Sophie von Teschen, an upper-class woman played by Jessica Biel. Eisenheim must use his magical talents to free Sophie from her engagement to Crown Prince Leopold, played by Rufus Sewell, who tries to discredit Eisenheim's magical talents. Director Neil Burger and Cinematographer Dick Pope used Cooke S4 Primes to capture the film's detailed and mystical beauty and make Eisenheim's illusions come to life.
Nominated in the Achievement in Directing category, United 93 employed Cooke S4 Primes in its bold portrayal of the events that occurred on United Flight 93 during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Using Cooke S4 Prime Lenses, Director of Photography Paul Greengrass chronicles the intensely heroic and poignant actions of United Flight 93 passengers during this tragic event. The visually captivating and riveting film has struck a cord with audiences everywhere.
Cooke Optics has been the chosen lens of many acclaimed Hollywood cinematographers for good reason. The S4 design, winner of a technical Academy Award®, Emmy Award®, Cinec Award and Queens Awards, incorporates innovative features for superb control of flare, distortion, veiling glare and spherical aberrations at full aperture. The cam-type focus mechanism gives smoother focus adjustments and allows for better spaced and clearer lens markings.
The S4 Primes include focal lengths of 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 25, 27, 32, 35, 40, 50, 65, 75, 100, 135, 150, 180 and the newly released 300mm. In addition, all focal lengths are color balanced, achieving excellent contrast and resolution over the full Super 35 format. Like the entire S4 range, the Cooke SK4 wide angle lenses for Super 16 give excellent definition in low light or shadow and warm image under all external, arc, or fluorescent lighting and feature Cooke's acclaimed "Cooke Look" - a lush, sharp but velvety appearance with rich warm colors.
