Visionary Broadband Use Exceeds Fifty Percent

Visionary Communications has exceeded fifty percent broadband adoption across its network in one of the nation's most rural areas. Their experience has provided an indication of what broadband adoption will be like in the future, even for the most remote Internet users. The company's own transition from low-band to broadband has happened in just the last few years.

Casper, WY (PRWEB) February 18, 2007 -- Visionary Communications has announced the company has surpassed fifty percent saturation for broadband services across its service areas in Montana and Wyoming. The company reports that more than half of all customer accounts are now on a broadband Internet service.

Visionary, which started as a dialup Internet Service Provider in December of 1994, has evolved into a rural broadband provider. The company is technology agnostic - they use any available broadband to reach their customers. The most remote businesses may receive their Internet via T1 service, with downtown businesses on Visionary's DSL or Metro Ethernet product. Residential customers choose between fixed wireless or DSL for their broadband service options with Visionary.

As the Internet has evolved, Visionary has evolved, and is focused on delivering a last mile solution to its customers. Some of the broadband demand is from tele-workers, or those employees who work from home and need to be connected to a corporate network. Visionary also has customers that are very rural, but need a constant and uninterrupted connection to the Internet. It is not uncommon for a day trader to install a T1 at their home on the outskirts of town, or for a mining contractor to request that Visionary install a short-term broadband solution 40 miles from the nearest city.

"This is significant when you think about our coverage area," says Brian Worthen, President and CEO of Visionary. "There are some communities where we are unable to provide broadband service outside a limited coverage area. Factor in the most rural dialup Internet users, and this fifty percent mark means much more."

Worthen explained that Visionary provides service in towns as small as 300 people, making broadband installation and adoption more difficult than an ISP in a metro area. The company has gained experience in fixed wireless and various DSL technologies, and has been the first to deploy many technologies within their coverage area. Visionary has adopted DSL standards such as ADSL2+ and SHDSL to improve the reach to their rural customers.

The fact a Service Provider has transitioned their core business this quickly allows the industry to see the importance of delivering broadband Internet to market. Visionary's experience provides a glimpse into the nation's transition from low-band services such as dialup to broadband service. Technologies such as video and voice-over-IP will increasingly drive a migration to broadband services.

Visionary Communications is a pioneering broadband Internet provider, offering DSL in 56 communities and wireless broadband in 11 communities. The company provides Internet Service in more than 90 towns and cities throughout Montana and Wyoming. The company operates their own DSL and fixed-wireless plants throughout the two states. The company is headquartered in Gillette, Wyoming.
