Rochester, NY (PRWEB) February 18, 2007 -- "I Beat Heart Disease, So Can You" by Guido V. Marinetti, Ph.D. ISBN 0-595-39580-0 ($15.95) published by iUniverse, the leading provider of publishing technology solutions for authors, released today. Order from iUniverse at 1-800-288-4677 or from http://www.bn.com.

"I Beat Heart Disease, So Can You" is aimed for the general public, medical students, graduate students, nurses, and practicing physicians. It covers lipid-lowering diets, lipid lowering drugs, and the benefit of daily exercise. Emphasis is placed on the good health benefits of fish omega-3 fatty acids, olive oil, and exercise and the harmful health effects of saturated fatty acids, trans fatty acids, refined carbohydrates, and overweight.

When he had symptoms of heart disease he got medical help without delay. He had medical tests done and then had successful open-heart surgery for coronary artery disease. After his surgery, he exercises daily. Walking at least 30 minutes a day helps the heart. He eats a healthy Dr. Willett-type diet and takes the Statin drug Lipitor. His diet consists of a healthy mix of vegetables, fruits, nuts, high fiber low glycemic index carbohydrates, good proteins such as fish, egg white, and white meat of chicken and turkey in place of red meat of beef and pork. He also eats in moderation to avoid getting overweight. This easy preventive medicine has given him an additional twenty seven years of life and still leads a normal life in his 80's.

Avoid eating just before going to bed. Avoid eating foods high in saturated fats and trans fatty acids that are found in many baked products like pastries, pies, and some cereals. Fish or fish oil capsules that are high in omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) and that protect against heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Omega-6 fatty acids in red meats increase the risk of these diseases.
