Noixia Eliminates Possible Cancer Threat from Blackhead Removal Product

Even though the FDA does not consider a family of cosmetic preservatives called "parabens" a serious health threat, Noixia has decided to eliminate parabens from its blackhead removal cream.

(PRWEB) March 4, 2007 -- San Diego based skin research firm Noixia dedicated itself to helping consumers intelligently, safely and affordably enhance their image. In line with its commitment to safe skincare, this March Noixia will release a parabens free version of its blackhead removal and acne scar preventing product called "Blackhead Bandit".

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetic products. Common parabens used in cosmetic products include methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben.

Noixia shifted away from parabens for two reasons; to create a more natural product and to help reduce consumer contact with parabens. Organizations like the Breast Cancer Fund encourage skin care manufactures to formulate non-toxic cosmetics and avoid using chemicals that could potentially harm consumers.

In recent years, parabens have come under scrutiny because of a possible links to cancer. Estrogenic activity in the body is associated with certain forms of breast cancer and parabens possess estrogen-like properties. Additionally, clinical researchers have identified parabens in breast tumors.

Notwithstanding, the Food and Drug Administration believes that there is no reason for consumers to be concerned about the use of cosmetics containing parabens. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) concurs with the FDA's finding.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review is an industry-sponsored organization that reviews cosmetic ingredient safety and publishes its results in public, peer-reviewed literature. The CIR examined the safety level of parabens in 1984 and again in 2005 because of growing concerns over the carcinogenic potential of parabens. Upon both examinations, the CIR deemed parabens safe for use in cosmetic products at levels of up to 25%. Most cosmetics only contains less than half a percent of parabens.

Noixia President Nicole Dial explained, "Even though numerous reports has determined that parabens are most likely not a carcinogen, the fact remains that parabens are used in almost every cosmetic or toiletry product used by men and women, so just by having one less daily exposure to parabens could collectively benefit consumers."

Noixia plans to continue removing parabens from its entire line of acne scar removal and acne scar prevention products.
