Planeta.com Holds Online Auction for Copper Canyon Vacation

Planeta.com, the web's first ecotourism website, holds an online auction for Copper Canyon vacation to generate funds for website development and content aquisition. Canyon Travel is donating a 7-night Western Canyon Explorer trip for two people to Mexico's Copper Canyon.

(PRWEB) April 9, 2007 -- Planeta.com, the web's first ecotourism website, holds an online auction for a Copper Canyon vacation. Bids are accepted from April 10-28, 2007.

Canyon Travel - http://www.canyontravel.com - has donated a 7-night Western Canyon Explorer trip for two people to Mexico's Copper Canyon to help generate funds for Planeta.com's website development and content aquisition.

About the acution:

Canyon Travel offers bird-watching with bilingual naturalist guides. The package features regional cuisine and cultural presentations. Retail value of this trip for two persons is (US) $3,318 during high season. This trip does not have seasonal restrictions, though it must be taken within one calendar year.

Said 2005 auction winner Bob Healy: "The trip took us to two remote ecolodges deep in canyon country. They were places most tourists could never reach, and were very different from the large hotels at Creel, the destination for most people who decide to get off the train. Food, rooms and guiding were first-rate and the hiking itinerary was flexible to accommodate diverse tastes within our small group. We subsequently recommended the trip to friends who were also extremely satisfied."

The winning bid must be paid to Canyon Travel by credit card or with a cashier's check or money order delivered by overnight service within one day of the winning bid being accepted. The auction may be extended if the minimum bid is not met. All travelers must sign a tour responsibility waiver.

About Planeta.com:

Planeta.com - http://www.planeta.com - is an award-winning website that presents articles and discussion about the environment and travel. The site debuted in 1994. Travelers will find tips on choosing eco-friendly, people-friendly and place-friendly trips. Professionals will find a number of helpful resources, including our Exploring Ecotourism Resource Guide.

About Copper Canyon:

The individual Copper Canyon (Barranca del Cobre) is just one of more than 20 canyons that stretch west of Chihuahua City in the Sierra Madre Occidental, located between the high central plateau and the Sea of Cortez. For outdoor enthusiasts, the region offers hiking, birding, mountain biking and horseback riding. The mountains here are also known as the Sierra Tarahumara.

Lodging overlooks the Urique Canyon, the deepest canyon in North America, and home to a Tarahumara settlement. Founded in 1690 along the banks of the meandering river, Urique was totally isolated until connected by a switchback mountain road in 1975. The descent begins in a conifer forest and continues through oak and tropical deciduous forest, ending in a riparian habitat at the canyon bottom. Opportunities abound to spot Military Macaw, Tufted Flycatcher and the elusive Eared Quetzal.
