20 Women For Darfur Asks Coffee Drinkers To Donate A Cup For Darfur During Global Days For Darfur

20 Women For Darfur (TWFD), a coalition of 20 women from various sectors of the entertainment field, is teaming up with the Darfur Action Committee at UCLA (DAC) for A Cup Of Coffee For Darfur, an internet-based fundraising event to raise awareness and funds for the displaced families in the region.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 21, 2007 -- 20 Women For Darfur (TWFD), a coalition of 20 women from various sectors of the entertainment field, is teaming up with the Darfur Action Committee at UCLA (DAC) for A Cup Of Coffee For Darfur. In recognition of Global Days For Darfur, TWFD and DAC are asking students, faculty and local citizens to donate the cost of at least one cup of coffee to The International Rescue Committee (www.irc.org). The donations will provide crucial aid to refugees and displaced people in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Though the atrocity occurring in Darfur has received some media attention, the violence continues to escalate, leaving more families in need. According to 20 Women founder Lia Martin, "A Cup Of Coffee For Darfur is a simple way to give to people who really need it. There is a level of awareness here in the US but many people still aren't informed about the genocide and others have no idea how to help. We are hoping this campaign supplies people with both knowledge and an easy way to give to a worthy organization."

Since February of 2003, at least 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict taking place in Darfur. More than 2 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes and now live in displaced-persons camps in Sudan or in refugee camps in neighboring Chad; and more than 3.5 million men, women, and children are completely reliant on international aid for survival. By participating in this fundraising effort, necessary funds will be used for food, shelter and medical care.

Please send all donations to: 20 Women For Darfur, 14622 Ventura Boulevard, #741, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. Checks should be made payable to The International Rescue Committee or IRC.

Many local celebrities have been active participants in Twenty Women For Darfur events, including Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Williams and Derek Fisher. The organization is currently planning a World Music Festival with DAC for October of 2007 at UCLA. Several major labels have been contacted for participation.
