Help Save the SF Shipyard Artists' Colony: Come to Public Mtng on April 23, 6pm

The historic San Francisco Hunters Point Shipyard Artists' Colony is in danger of extinction

(PRWEB) April 23, 2007 -- Save San Francisco Artists' Colony. Meeting 4/23/07 for public input 6-8pm. We need a good turnout.

The historic Hunters Point Shipyard Artists' Colony is in danger of extinction - please come and voice your support for its continued survival at the shipyard on Monday, April 23 at the Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting.

On Monday, April 23, Lennar Corp. is presenting a "Conceptual Framework" of its Hunters Point development plan to the CAC for its approval.

But despite considerable support by the City of San Francisco and repeated promises to include the studio space in the plans, Lennar's new framework leaves OUT specific mention of the 170+ artists who depend on this space for their livelihoods. Instead they detail 19,000 parking spaces, 9,000 new housing units and other more profitable aspects of their plan.

Please come to this April 23 meeting and voice your support for the artists' colony. The City and Lennar must hear that the citizens of San Francisco support our local artists.

The CAC should not vote on this plan until Lennar includes specific language ENSURING that all artists' studio space will be PRESERVED.

No one wants to stand in the way of sorely needed progress in this area of San Francisco--but we must ensure that Lennar and the City don't go back on their word to the artists. They must commit to preserving this vital space.

Please add your voice in support.

CAC Meeting
Monday, April 23
6:00 - 8:00 pm
Alex Pitcher Auditorium
Southeast Community Facility
1800 Oakdale Ave.
San Francisco, CA 94124
