Records Fall at the Buttonwillow Raceway Redline Time Attack Presented by Hawk Performance Brake Pads

The Redline Time Attack Series, presented by Hawk Performance Brake pads set many new records this weekend. A new record for total number of participants, from any time attack event, was set. Many division and class records were also set, including a new Fastest Time Ever time attack track record, set by the Hankook/JIC Nissan S-15 driven by Tyler McQuarrie.

Lancaster, CA (PRWEB) May 2, 2007 -- The 2nd round of the Redline Time Attack presented by Hawk Performance Brake Pads series roared into Buttonwillow Raceway this past weekend, April 28th & 29th. The only thing hotter than the forecasted weather was the competition on the track as a host of Redline Time Attack track records. Battling each other in addition to high temps in the upper 90's both Saturday and Sunday, a record number of time attack competitors set out to prove who is the "Best in the West". A total of 7 Division records, 2 Class Records and a new Overall "Fastest Lap Ever" Record fell this weekend.

Hankook_JIC_Small.JPGIn the Street Class, Front Wheel Drive Division, Tim Kuo, piloting the Sports Car Motion K20-powered Acura Integra stormed to a first place finish, setting a new Division record with a best lap time of 2:07.729. Completing a 2 for 2 sweep for the weekend, Tim Kuo also came out on top in the Street Class - Rear Wheel Drive Division in his daily driven Honda S2000, with a new Division record lap time of 2:02.834. Continuing his dominance in the Street Class - All Wheel Drive Division, Nils Leufven set a new All Wheel Drive Division and Street Class lap record with a best time of 1:58.452. This makes 3 victories in a row for Nils in his GSC/RobiSpec sponsored Mitsubishi Evo 8 RS.

With one of the largest entry fields ever for the Modified Class everyone knew the path to victory would not be an easy one. Coming out on top of the Modified Class - Front Wheel Drive division was Craig Dabbs in a Neon SRT-4 with a best lap time of 2:02.860. This was only 0.132 seconds off the existing Division record set in December 2006. The Modified Class - All Wheel Drive Division was topped by Robert Walker driving the Evasive Motorsports Mitsubishi Evo with a best time, and new Division record, of 1:56.381. Also accomplishing his 3rd victory in a row was Billy Johnson in the Factor X Acura NSX with a new Division and overall Modified Class lap record of 1:55.014. Word from Factor X is that this car will be retired and work on a new Unlimited Class NSX has begun. Those competitors in Unlimited Class will now have a new car to worry about!

The Unlimited Class vehicles were turning in some of the fastest lap times ever to be clocked in a Time Attack at Buttonwillow Raceway. In the Unlimited - Front Wheel Drive Division, Andrie Hartanto ripped off a 1:58.749 in the Redzone/Rota Honda Civic Si to capture first place. Newcomers to the Redline Time Attack Series, GST Motorsports made sure to impress everyone in attendance with their effort. Driver Brian Lock, in the GST Motorsports Subaru Impreza L, set a new Unlimited - All Wheel Drive Division record with a blazing fast lap time of 1:50.383.

The question on everyone's mind over the weekend was whether anyone had a chance to break the existing Time Attack Track Record for Buttonwillow, with the high ambient and track surface temps having an obvious impact on performance. Everyone in attendance was not to leave the event disappointed however. After suffering a number of mechanical issues over the course of the weekend, the Hankook Tires/JIC Magic team was able to hustle and put together a finely tuned Time Attack Nissan S-15 for driver Tyler McQuarrie when it counted. In the final Time Attack session of the day, Tyler was able to surpass the previous Time Attack record held by the Sun Automotive Cyber Evo set in 2004, with an astounding lap time of 1:48.766. In the process setting new Unlimited-Rear Wheel Drive Division and overall Unlimited Class Redline Time Attack records for Buttonwillow Raceway.

Round three of the Redline Time Attack presented by Hawk Performance Brake Pads Series is scheduled for St. Eustache, Montreal the weekend of June 2nd & 3rd. This will be the first time the series has crossed into Canada and it is expected to be one of the largest spectator counts in Time Attack history. Many front running American teams are expected to make the trek up to Montreal to battle it out with their Canadian counterparts.
