Oregon Company Partners with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to Bring Exceptional Science Kits to Exceptional Kids
Online retailer of award-winning science kits is thrilled to help create dream homes for families in need.
Portland, OR (PRWEB) May 21, 2007 -- When the producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition need engaging and educational science kits, they turn to Clackamas-based DiscoverThis.com to provide the goods. The show's special two-hour season finale, which aired May 20, marks the third collaboration between the online science kit retailer and the smash hit reality TV series.
Discover This first joined Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for the recent season's premiere by helping to set up a classroom loaded with science discovery tools for the 13-member Rogers family. Later in the season, they provided microscopes, science books, chemistry sets and animal anatomy models to the Noyola family, whose two daughters dream of becoming a veterinarian and marine biologist. With the May 20 episode, DiscoverThis.com owner Marianne Cursetjee was able to help close out this exciting season by contributing to the ultimate dream home for another deserving family.
The episode features Schenectady, New York, mom Debbie Oatman and her four boys. Oatman adopted three of the boys, two of whom are HIV-positive, hoping to give them a chance to live happy, healthy lives. In doing so, she became not only a single mom but also a healthcare provider and community educator. Oatman has worked tirelessly to provide the healthiest environment possible for her boys while overcoming intense prejudice about their much-feared and often misunderstood disease. When she learned the family's house was literally crumbling beneath them, she turned to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for help.
Cursetjee was more than happy to review her extensive stock of science kits to match the boys' interests and abilities. She selected two architectural kits - a house and a bridge - as well as two state-of-the-art mechanical kits - a Visible Hemi Dodge 426 v-8 Engine and a thoroughly modern Fuel Cell Kit. She also provided a popular chemistry set and a physics workshop kit for the boys to explore.
On each episode of the Emmy-award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the lives of one lucky family life are changed forever. The designers and contractors race against the clock to complete a major home renovation in just one week, surprising the family at week's end with a home that surpasses their wildest dreams. Every aspect of construction and décor matches the family's unique personalities and needs, even down to the toys and games that delight every child.
"We're so happy to be part of the show once more," says Cursetjee. "It feels really good to be part of changing somebody's life so dramatically!"
