The playwright Kalman Kivkovich is a retired architect and resides in Cincinnati with his wife Sandi. He published his first nonfiction Architecture in 1975 in Italy and finished his first novel, In the Vise of Evils, in 2006.

The first stage reading of "In The Vise of Evils" on May 8, 2007 was sold-out a month in advance. The stage reading performance is part of the New Voices Series and sponsored by CPI and the Cincinnati Arts Association. Plays originally presented in the New Voices Series have been produced in New York and Los Angeles and by the Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati.

About CPI

The Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative is a grassroots organization of playwrights, directors and actors devoted to bringing plays written by local playwrights to the Cincinnati stage in the form of stage readings. Stage readings are an important step in the development of new plays. The audience is encouraged but not required to join in the collaborative process of bringing a new play to life. Preliminary to full productions stage readings allow playwrights, actors, directors to receive feedback from the audience about the play-in-progress.
