Summer in Banff: A Small Town With Big Sound Unveils its Exciting Summer Programs
A wide variety of summer programs in the heart of the Rocky Mountains promises urban fun and excitement for the whole family in a casual mountain atmosphere.
Banff, Alberta (PRWEB) May 16, 2007 -- Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Banff is a small town with a big sound. Metropolitan culture takes over the charming mountain town as it unveils its eclectic mix of summer programs.
With a variety of events happening all around town, all season long, Banff is singing to the tune of urban culture with a distinctive casual atmosphere. From world-class opera premieres to laid-back performances in the park, the hot summer days somehow sound different here.
The Banff Summer Arts Festival gets underway in May and features more than 150 public events during the summer months, including jazz, orchestra and chamber music concerts, performances by some of Canada's top contemporary dance companies, original opera, exhibitions and film.
The Bow Arts in the Park Concert Series takes place each Sunday afternoon, in Banff Central Park, along the shores of the Bow River, and features free outdoor performances. Enjoying this event is a great way to relax while taking in the river and mountain surroundings. Spread a blanket and enjoy everything from Shakespeare to string quartets. The series gets underway June 17 and runs until early September.
On July 1st, flag-waving and happy mayhem takes over the Banff area. It is Canada's birthday and we are throwing a mountain birthday party! This town festival is highlighted by all day cultural entertainment in Banff Central Park, and includes a sidewalk art demonstration, a food fair, face painting and an afternoon parade down Banff Avenue. True to patriotic form, this day ends with a stellar fireworks display.
In addition to all these exciting summer programs, Banff is a constant hub of activities. You can stroll down the main street and visit the unique boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and more. Or reach beyond the main stroll of Banff Avenue to find outdoor adventures, adrenaline-pumping thrills, soothing spas, hot springs and historical sites. These are only a few of the many experiences blending arts, culture and mountains in this recreational wonderland.
