Travelocity Releases Memorial Day Travel Snapshot

Summer travel season shows no signs of slowing down but offers some pricing relief for consumers over Memorial Day.

(PRWEB) May 16, 2007 -- As the kick-off to summer fast approaches, Travelocity industry analysts have conducted a data analysis to determine where and how Americans are taking their Memorial Day vacations. According to the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA), summer travel bookings peeked in 2006, with over 200 million U.S. travelers taking to the skies between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. This year, domestic pricing for Memorial Day weekend is surprisingly down 1.2 percent over 2006, although international pricing is up 8.5 percent for the same period.

In 2007, well prepared travelers seem to be thinking about their vacations further in advance. The average domestic traveler bought their tickets an average of 60.7 days before departure in 2007 compared to 59.4 days before departure in 2006 and 61.8 days in 2005. The average customer purchased tickets for international destinations about 17.4 days sooner than domestic tickets.
