Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 1, 2007 -- birdJam, the hottest bird identification tool for the extremely easy-to-use Apple iPod, has launched an interactive "birdJam Studio" at www.birdjam.com/studio. The dynamic birdJam Studio will feature web-based applications to enhance birdJam iPods, provide new downloadable content such as user-contributed bird photography, and deliver other enhancements so that birdJammers can easily customize their iPods for specific birding styles and needs.
"Thousands of birdJammers are located throughout the U.S. and Canada, many volunteering as trip leaders and conducting bird surveys," explained Denese Van Dyne, birdJam partner. "With birdJam Studio, customizing their birdJam iPods for specific trips, regions, tasks and skill development will soon be as automatic and natural as grabbing their binoculars and field guides."
The first new web application is the interactive birdJam Playlist Creator that automates and accelerates the development of new birdJam playlists. Existing playlists serve as starter templates, and automated tools streamline the selection and elimination of birds to create a new playlist.
The new playlists can be shared with and accessed by other birdJammers, building a huge library that leverages the knowledge and expertise of the entire birdJam community. A rating system -- from 0 to 5 stars -- means the most useful playlists will be easy to identify.
Checklists that match the playlists can be quickly formatted and printed. "In just minutes, trip leaders can create playlists and associated checklists for specific locations and field trips," Van Dyne continued. "The birdJam Studio makes this powerful birding tool even more compelling when customized with individualized content based on shared knowledge and expertise."
A shared library of bird photographs for free download will be the next addition to the birdJam Studio. Nearly 30 percent of birdJammers take photographs in the field, and soon they will be able to contribute their photos to enhance the experience of other birders. At the same time, an expanded library of photographs for birdJam by renowned bird photographers such as Robert Royce and Brian Small is being finalized and soon will be available for download at a nominal charge.
birdJam delivers 650 songs of North American birds on an Apple iPod, eliminating the need to struggle with multiple tapes or CDs. With a birdJam iPod, any North American bird can be found within 15 seconds from the easily-accessed and intuitive playlists organized in alphabetic and phylogenetic order, and by habitat, family, "sound-alikes," geographic locations, festivals and now, user contributed.
A Maine birdJammer recently wrote, "We were at our camp in northern Maine this weekend where Black-Throated Blues [warblers are not uncommon this time of year. I heard a call ... obvious warbler of some kind ... put iPod ear bud in one ear and listened to the bird with the other. Scrolled to Black-Throated Blue, and the two matched. Then, I saw the bird making the call. Terrific!"
Since 2005, birdJam has delivered the simplest and most convenient birding tool to thousands of novice to expert birders.
