Aberdeen, UK (PRWEB) June 3, 2007 -- Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has selected Hi-Co Technologies Ltd as their source for non spark hand tools for use in areas of potential explosive atmosphere at Peterhead Power Station. Hi-Co are the UK Distributor for Carltsoe Safety Tools of Denmark and supplied a bespoke 28 piece tool kit of wrenches, spanners and hammers, made from Copper Beryllium, all of which were securely housed in a custom made wooden cabinet.

Peterhead Power Station, sited in the north of Aberdeenshire was first brought into operation in 1980, with the capability to run on North Sea Oil or gas. The option enables the lower cost fuel to be used. With a total capacity of 1500 megawatts, this is now a highly efficient plant, with low pollution levels.

Following the introduction of ATEX regulations, SSE the plant owners and operators, carried out full risk assessments in areas of potential explosive atmosphere, as part of their ongoing and comprehensive safety policy.

Although the most stringent safety measures are in place, the station is powered by gas, the generators are cooled using Hydrogen and Hydrogen is also stored on site. Every area is risk assessed with ATEX zones 1 and 2 identified as areas where non-spark tools are required.

SSE has praised the quality and practicality of the tools and is pleased with the service levels provided by both Carltsoe & Hi-Co. Subsequently, a further order for a 30 piece tool kit, again in Copper Beryllium, is currently being processed.
