Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 6, 2007
Expanded Books LLC announced today that it has entered into an agreement with OverDrive, a distributor of downloadable digital media to libraries throughout the world. Expanded Books content will be available through OverDrive's Community Reserve, a collection of free materials for its library partners.
All of the videos produced by Expanded Books, covering genres ranging from science fiction to self-help, will soon be available on OverDrive partner library web sites for viewing and download. In addition, previews of the videos are available for viewing by librarians through OverDrive's library purchasing portal (Content Reserve) to help them decide which titles will interest their patrons.
Founded in 2004, Expanded Books collaborates with major publishing houses to produce author interviews that air as streaming video on major web portals such as Yahoo!, MSN, Google Video, YouTube, MySpace, and Apple's iTunes Store. In the three years since its founding, Expanded Books has aired nearly 200 interviews that have garnered nearly 4 million streams in total with such bestselling authors and illustrators such as Steve Berry, Rita Mae Brown, Maurice Sendak and Orson Scott Card, as well as with such public figures and celebrities-turned-authors as former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, Queer Eye's Carson Kressley, and football great Jerry Rice.
Expanded Books has found success in using the internet's niche marketing capabilities effectively to reach its target audience through entertainment and specialized channels on the web. Because OverDrive is a major provider of digital content to library patrons, the relationship gives Expanded Books an even more direct connection with literature-friendly consumers. OverDrive's library partners will benefit by having access to free content they can add to their digital collections, enhancing their ability to increase circulation through digital media.
"Libraries are adapting to serve patrons digitally and that's why the partnership with OverDrive is so perfectly aligned with our purpose," said Skye Van Raalte-Herzog, Co-Founder and Producer of Expanded Books. "Like OverDrive, we take advantage of digital media to make books more appealing and accessible to readers who are getting more of their information from the internet than ever before."
"When libraries add Expanded Books content for free, their patrons will be able to browse and download the videos on the same platform they use to find audio books, eBooks and music," said Steve Potash, CEO of OverDrive. "We believe that Expanded Books provides quality material that will easily enhance any library's digital collection."
