Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 15, 2007 -- Pro Soccer Players, Dean Ruddy (Mt. Prospect, IL) and Ross Smith (Toronto, Canada) set a new Guinness World Record on June 1-2 for the number of hugs in a 24-hour period with 4,288 hugs, shattering the previous mark of 4,135.
The pair set the new world record on Chicago's Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave.) and used the event as an opportunity to raise money and awareness for children's charity Dreams for Kids.
"The best moment for me, came when I asked a kid in a wheelchair if I could hug him and he looked up at me with the biggest smile and said simply 'I would love a hug'," said Dean "He seemed so happy to have someone ask and include him, that it really hit home to me why we are doing this to benefit children's charity Dreams for Kids."
