Louisville's St. James Court Art Show Wins Accolades from Style Magazine; Sets Date of 51st Annual Show for October 5-7, 2007

The St. James Art Show is second only in attendance to the Kentucky Derby, and with good reason. This annual show of juried arts and craft attracts more than 300,000 visitors and is one of the top three selling art shows in the US. Set in the Historic Old Louisville neighborhood, the show is a wonderful way to enjoy fall, the arts, and America's largest collection of Victorian Homes.

(PRWEB) June 17, 2007 -- This year, officials at Louisville's St. James Court Art Show have more to announce than just the date for next year's show, which is set, as always, in the first weekend of October, 5-7. The show has also been named the #3 art festival in the nation by Style magazine, and has consistently held the spot as the #1 or #2 art show in America by sales, as rated by Sunshine Artist magazine.

Over 700 artists from North America are slated to exhibit at the 2007 show, selling fine arts and fine crafts in mediums such as clay, clothing, images, glass, wood, sculpture, jewelry and more.

St. James Court and Old Louisville make up the nation's largest collection of Victorian Homes, after all, and the architecture is exquisite. I can't think of a better way of spending a fall day than taking in the great art, food and fellowship at the show
Last year's show broke an attendance record at 320,000, making it second only to the Kentucky Derby Festival as the state's most popular event. "I think the event has become so popular because of the selection of high quality art in all price ranges, and the setting," said Margue Esrock, director of the Art Show. "St. James Court and Old Louisville make up the nation's largest collection of Victorian Homes, after all, and the architecture is exquisite. I can't think of a better way of spending a fall day than taking in the great art, food and fellowship at the show," she added.

This outdoor art show is held, rain or shine, in the heart of Old Louisville's Victorian-era district. It began in 1956 on a clothesline hung between two trees, where artists hung paintings for sale. The $150 earned that year helped repair the court's now iconic Victorian fountain. Today, money raised from artists and corporate sponsors at the show is used to maintain the neighborhood, and to provide thousands of dollars in scholarships to art students. With the exception of one paid staff member, the show is entirely run by a large network of volunteers.

Concessions, first aid, mobile money machines, valet parking, as well as public transportation are available. A full color program, which is featured in the October issue of Louisville Magazine, is also free to art patrons.
