Promethean Previews World's First Multi-Input Interactive Whiteboard Solution

Multi-User Platform Allows Unprecedented Collaboration in K-12 Classrooms

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 22, 2007 -- Promethean, a global leader in interactive learning technology, has taken the lead once again by creating the world's first multi-input technology designed specifically for the classroom. This new upgrade, which will preview at NECC, transforms your Promethean interactive whiteboard into an 'Activarena', allowing true collaboration, project based learning, and small group interaction in the classroom.

The potential to extend this benefit to other students around the world, and to facilitate global community learning is a hugely exciting prospect for educators - one that is made possible with Promethean's new offering.
Activarena allows students to work together at the Activboard using multiple devices such as Promethean's unique Activpen to drag-and-drop, highlight, switch between pages, and activate sounds and images - creating unlimited possibilities for interactive learning in the classroom. For the first time ever, Promethean has developed a commercial product that enables more than one input to be made at once on an interactive whiteboard, so teacher and pupil, or pupil and pupil, can really work together. The Activpen is a fundamental benefit of the technology, which allows teachers to choose how and when the multi-input interface is used.

"There is a massive difference between children taking turns and children really working together at the same time on the same Activboard," says Mark Robinson, Promethean Head of Education Product Strategy, "With Activarena students can write opposing viewpoints, collaborate to complete a game or puzzle, or work as a team to illustrate their ideas to the class. The learning opportunities are limitless."

"By creating an environment of active, exploratory learning, Activarena helps change students' roles from purely being the focus of the learning process to becoming the facilitators of that process," said Barbara Ahr, District Technology Facilitator for Mount Laurel Township Schools in Mount Laurel, NJ. "The potential to extend this benefit to other students around the world, and to facilitate global community learning is a hugely exciting prospect for educators - one that is made possible with Promethean's new offering."

Activarena enables all current series of Promethean Activboards to support the use of multiple users at the same time on the same board simply by installing the upgrade. The new Activboard functionality also includes support for pressure sensitive applications that will open a whole new world of creative opportunities.

Promethean will host demonstrations at NECC, the National Computing Conference, in Atlanta, Georgia, June 24-27 and plans to run advanced interaction pilot projects throughout 2007. Researchers and third party educational software companies will be able to work with Promethean in developing innovative applications through a developer toolkit which will be available in the coming months.
