Segway NYC Live Earth Concert Goes Green ... The Kind You Spend $

itsi Atkins of Segway NYC Reviews the Live Earth Concert, Giant Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 9, 2007 -- SegwayNYNY attended the Live Earth Concert at Meadowlands Sports Complex Giant Stadium on July 7th. Itsi Atkins found 12 hours of great music, a sold out crowd of dedicated fans and plenty of GREEN with 52,000 attendees. A top ticket costing over $600 to support our planet's "climate in crisis". Plenty of overpriced beer and water at $4.00 per 9 oz bottle. The concerts brought together more than 150 of the world's most popular music acts and drew an estimated worldwide audience of 2 billion people, making it one of the largest global events in history.

The umbrella organization for the event was Save Our Selves, founded by Kevin Wall, and included major partners such as former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, the Alliance for Climate Protection, MSN and Control Room, the concert production company which produced the event.

We had planned to have seven Segways each displaying one of Gore's seven climate crisis pledges but he New York production company never followed up.
Al Gore must be praised for his dedicated efforts to create awareness. The concerts were truly a worldwide event with every continent represented, including Antarctica, where a band of scientists rocked the research station. The public activism was sincere attempt to support the cause,. however, this reviewer feels the production companies had a green approach, the kind of green you spend. The official accounting of ticket sales and donations to the "cause" is yet to be determined.

SegwayNYC founder Itsi Atkins attended the concert arriving at the stage on his Segway. Mr. Gore is a strong supporter of Segway technology and had wanted Segway presence at the event. SegwayNYC arranged with the promoters, in London, to provide Segways to demonstrate the promise of green transportation choices. Itsi continues, "We had planned to have seven Segways each displaying one of Gore's seven climate crisis pledges but he New York production company never followed up." The local production house and the venue missed an opportunity to make Live Earth a sincere happening about improving our planet by not giving the sponsors proper visibility and importance. The profit margin seemed to take center stage. Outside of Giant Stadium a traditional carnival complete with rides and games entertained thousands as they waited to enter. The spinning rides of this carnival venue had a captured audience and little to do with the GREEN theme. This space could have been designed as a consumer ecological fair, using the Burning Man or MakeFair approach reminiscent of the Whole Earth days. A fair that included smart new companies, artists and organic venders without payment of the high priced sponsor fees. A production team with a vision could have pulled it off.

Let's just do it smarter next time. I realize the 2007 Live Earth promoters may have found a way to conserve water, but not at $4.00 a bottle, forget it!
