Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2007
SaveBAREC will submit referendum petitions that challenge the zoning and general plan amendment on the BAREC property located at 90 N Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA. The community has made it known that they will not let the City Council make decisions that it does not agree with.
On June 20, 2007 at 2:20am, the Mayor of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara City Council voted to change the agricultural zoning and general plan designation for the 17-acre BAREC publicly owned open space, in order to allow a private residential development.
After nearly five years of struggle with the Santa Clara City Council, the SaveBAREC grassroots community is submitting more than the required 3,949 signatures gathered over the last three weeks to place the zoning and general plan change referendums on the ballot.
The Santa Clara Mayor and Santa Clara City Council have failed to create a viable solution to protect the community's last remaining 17 acres of agricultural open space for the residents of Santa Clara and the surrounding community.
This lack of leadership has galvanized the community to attend numerous council meetings, gather signatures, and oppose the current development plan which has not changed since 2003.
After successfully submitting the referendum petitions to the Santa Clara City Clerk, Friends of BAREC will be launching an educational campaign reaching out to the citizens of Santa Clara, communicating the reasons for voting to reject the City Council's zoning and general plan resolutions. Keep public land public.
