Men React Angrily to Infidelity Expert's Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign

Men say they're being unjustly targeted by infidelity expert Ruth Houston's Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign.

(PRWEB) July 19, 2007 -- Men all around the country are complaining of being unfairly targeted by infidelity expert Ruth Houston's annual Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign.

This is the third year that Ruth Houston, founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com , and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, has single-handedly taken on the task of warning women about the danger of summer infidelity, describing the three types of men most likely to have short-term summer affairs, and telling wives how to safeguard their marriages from summer flings.

But men have a problem with that.

Elements of the Infidelity Awareness Campaign

As part of her annual Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign, Houston has compiled a tip sheet telling wives how to spot the signs of summer infidelity, and how to short circuit or prevent their husband's summer affair. Houston has issued press releases, posted articles about summer infidelity on her website www.InfidelityAdvice.com and on her blog http://infidelitynewsandviews.blogspot.com , and has appeared on several talk shows discussing various aspects of summer infidelity. She has also been quoted in a number of print and online publications including The Hartford Courant, Newsday, FoxNews.com, the South Florida Sun Sentinel, amNewYork, Wireless Flash News, and Netscape Women's Forum, just to name a few.

Men Object to Being Singled Out

Men are taking issue with the fact that Houston's Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign focuses exclusively on cheating men, rather than cheating women. And they have expressed their anger in no uncertain terms. Men say the campaign is sexist, accuse Houston of causing paranoia among women, and some have even resorted to personal attacks.

Married Men More Likely to Have Summer Flings

Houston, who has spent nearly 14 years researching infidelity, defends her position with this statement, "The Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign focuses on cheating husbands because married men are much more likely to have summer flings, than married women. This is largely due to the differences in the reasons why men and women cheat."

Houston explains, "To put it in general terms, men tend to cheat for sexual reasons, while women tend to cheat for emotional reasons. Summer flings don't provide the kind of long term emotional connection women usually seek when they resort to extramarital affairs. When a women cheats, she's usually looking for more than a quick "sexual fix." The exception to this is the younger woman, in her early 20's or under, who tends to cheat for same reasons as most men. (sex, ego-embellishment or the thrill of the chase). That's why the Summer Infidelity Awareness Campaign centers on cheating men. Men are much more likely to be seasonal, recreational, or opportunistic cheaters who have short-term summer affairs.

The Danger of Summer Infidelity

Some people wonder why something as short-lived as a summer fling should be cause for concern. Indeed, many wives simply ignore summer flings since at the end of the summer they usually die a natural death. But according to Houston, that could be a fatal mistake. Sometimes a summer fling can become a permanent state of affairs.

Houston, who in addition to researching and writing about infidelity also does personal infidelity consultations, says "During the fall, I get twice the usual number of consultation requests because of women whose husbands are unable or unwilling to end their summer affairs. Many of these women had no idea of what their husbands were up to. Others ignored the signs of summer infidelity or considered their husband's summer fling inconsequential, only to find out they were wrong. Now their marriages are in jeopardy because they didn't heed the warning signs, or because they had no idea what to do in order to short-circuit or prevent their husband's summer affair.

Saving More Marriages

So no matter how vehemently men object, Houston plans to continue warning women about the danger of summer infidelity, and exposing the tactics cheating men use to hide their summer affairs.

Houston says, "I've seen what can happen when women make light of summer infidelity. If more wives knew how to spot the signs of summer infidelity, and how to short-circuit their husband's summer fling, more marriages could be saved."
