Pop Artist Ron Burns Takes Swing at Dog Fighting with First-Ever T-Shirt Art

100 percent of proceeds from "Prize, Not Fighter" shirts help fund HSUS Anti-Animal Fighting Campaign.

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) August 27, 2007 -- Watching events unfold in the Michael Vick dog-fighting case, Pop Artist Ron Burns had to act.

The idea that there are people who torture dogs into becoming killing machines is not something that cannot be tolerated. I couldn't sleep until I took steps to help end this barbaric practice.
"Dogs are born with the almost limitless need to give and receive love," says Burns. "The idea that there are people who torture dogs into becoming killing machines is not something that cannot be tolerated. I couldn't sleep until I took steps to help end this barbaric practice."

Burns, who is the artist-in-residence for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), has announced the creation of his first-ever T-shirt to help raise funds to bring a halt to animal cruelty in the form of dog fights.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the "Prize, Not Fighter" shirts will benefit the HSUS's Animal Cruelty and Fighting Campaign. The Campaign works with the legal system to put animal abusers behind bars and break up organized animal fighting rings, in addition to seeking stronger laws and pushing for the enforcement of existing laws.

Based on his original painting of Cecil, a rescued pit bull mix, this $26 fine cotton T-shirt is a great way to speak out and help put an end to cruel and inhumane dogfighting, says Burns.

"This is not a dog problem. It's a human problem and it has to be fought on multiple levels - through education, legislation, and enforcement," says Burns. "All of that needs funding."

Besides producing original works and private commission projects, Ron Burns has helped raise millions of dollars to benefit animal-related charities. In recent years he has painted the portraits of dogs owned by celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Doc Severinsen, and Joan Rivers as a means of raising funds and awareness of the needs of animals.

His work has been featured on Good Morning America, CNN, FOX news, PBS, and ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
