With over 20 years dedicated to the spa industry, Kim Collier shared her expertise from around this globe in the webinar Cutting Edge Treatment Trends. Collier, the founder of Jamu Asian Spa Rituals, was joined by special guest Paul Telford, Director of Spa & Recreation from Kahala Resort & Spa, Honolulu, Hawaii. Telford stressed the importance of authentic spa rituals and highly qualified therapists. Key treatment trends include:
Savvy Spa-goers: Consumers are looking for results and a genuine experience. The focus should be on creating an indigenous menu that reflects the local environment and traditions and stresses quality over quantity.
Tradition and Technology: There is a trend toward combining tradition with technology examples are electromagnetic and light therapy, skin rejuvenation technology, lasers, and body sculpting.
Spa Therapist of the Future: A combination of artist and scientist, the therapist of the futures is well studied, well-qualified, and multi-certified. Treatment rates may vary according to the "star" quality of the therapist.
"Guests' expectations of treatment rooms have changed dramatically in the past decade," was the message of SpaTrade's Treatment Room Trends webinar. Spa industry veterans Crista Stark from OAKWORKS® and Robert Mishkin from Comphy Co. shared their insights into transforming a treatment room into a comprehensive spa environment. Topics included innovations in treatment table design, creating the "perfect" treatment table through a combination of table, linens and bed coverings, and factoring your spa's total environmental impact.
