Americans Urged to Donate Appropriately to Those Affected by Hurricane Felix

Monetary donations provide immediate, effective assistance.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 8, 2007 -- The Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) encourages all those who wish to help those affected by Hurricane Felix to donate cash, as an alternative to gifts-in-kind and other commodities, in order to provide optimal assistance. It is widely recognized that cash donations are the most efficient and effective means of response, a policy supported by CIDI's funding partner, the United States Agency for International Development's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, and those in the established international disaster response community.

"As thousands throughout Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua try to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Felix, we will all likely wish to offer some sort of assistance," said Suzanne H. Brooks, the director of CIDI. "It is critical that relief workers already in the region have the resources to respond quickly and effectively to their needs. Cash donations are the best way for Americans to offer help. Cash donations allow responders to purchase exactly what is needed help the victims and help to support the local economies throughout the region."

We must remember that even small donations can make a big difference. These small donations add up. Pooled together with other donor contributions, even small amounts enhance the ability of professional relief agencies to respond quickly and effectively.
Believed to be one of the strongest and most quickly developing hurricanes on record, Hurricane Felix reached Central America as a strong Category 5 storm. Heavy rains caused flooding and mudslides in many areas.

Brooks further offered valuable insight on international disaster response, "We must remember that even small donations can make a big difference. These small donations add up. Pooled together with other donor contributions, even small amounts enhance the ability of professional relief agencies to respond quickly and effectively."
