Charlotte Resolves to Grow Sweet Staches For Charity Through Mustaches For Kids Fundraiser

Mustaches for Kids (M4K) is a national volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing Mustaches for children's charities. M4K-Charlotte is in its first year and will be raising money for DonorsChoose.org, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that provides funding for teacher-submitted projects to improve North Carolina public schools one classroom at a time.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) January 4, 2008 -- Is there a Brawny Paper Towel Casting Call? Is it Dress Like Richard Petty Day? Do I keep seeing Mike Schmidt everywhere? No. It's just regular Charlotteans, resolving to grow sweet staches in 2008 for the Inaugural (http://www.m4kclt.org) Mustaches for Kids - Charlotte!

Mustaches for Kids (M4K) is a national volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing Mustaches for children's charities. Through the years, M4K has enlisted the efforts of hundreds of brave "Growers" who, collectively, have raised over $150,000 for charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children's Hospital of New Orleans, and San Francisco's Legal Services for Children.

M4K-Charlotte is in its first year and will be raising money for DonorsChoose.org, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that provides funding for teacher-submitted projects to improve North Carolina public schools one classroom at a time, recently on Comedy Central's Colbert Report.

"This is actually one New Year's resolution I can keep," said Joe Romanelli, President of Romanelli Communications. "I found out about the event through friends and just had to get involved. What a cool way to do some good for a charity. I can't wait to start growing my sweet stache."

Each year, during the four-week Growing Season, "Growers" sprout sweet Mustaches. Per M4K bylaws, they shave their faces, except for the mustache, a minimum of one time per week and solicit donations from friends, family, co-workers, and people in the community (like getting pledges to run a marathon, without the exertion, cramping, or dehydration). M4K calls it a facial hair marathon.

To get involved, simply visit www.m4kclt.org and sign up. M4K-Charlotte's first information session will take place on January 3, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Madison's Bar and Lounge - 115 E. 5th Street. Growers will hear about all the fun, fundraising and follicles that make up M4K-Charlotte.

Shaving Day, January 10, 2007 is the official kick-off of the Growing Season. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. at Emerson Joseph, located at 221 S. Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte. On this day, all participants must shave their entire faces clean. Throughout the competition there will be Growing checkpoints on January 17th, January 24th and January 31st.

On February 7, 2008 the Sweetest Stache winner and the Worst Stache winner will be announced. Both will receive a year's worth of Breckenridge Brewery beer (one case per month for 12 months).

Romanelli continued, "The activity is hard on the ego, but easy on effort. Grow a mustache for a month. Fortunately, we'll have a built in support group that meets weekly at a different Uptown watering hole...that part I can do for any fundraiser."
