Dalip Raheja, President and CEO of The Mpower Group ("TMG") gave the grand opening "curtain raiser" presentation at the 2007 Annual Convention, the flagship event of the Faculty of Management Studies ("FMS"), University of Delhi, one of the top Business Schools in India. This event was held in December, 2007 in New Delhi, India with the theme of "Vision India: Sustaining the Dawn of Opportunity".
Dalip was joined by Randall Ellis, CIO and CPO of FMC Technologies ("FMC") and Tim Cummins, Executive Director of the International Association of Contract and Commercial Management ("IACCM"). TMG was the only North American-based company to be invited to speak at this convention and facilitated the inclusion of both FMC and IACCM.
This opening session was attended by delegates from 150 corporations, as well as Alumni of FMS - Delhi, Academia from FMS - Delhi and Delhi University, foreign delegations, select FMS students, and journalists and media personalities to cover the event.
Mr. Raheja elucidated on the advice that TMG gives their clients on doing business in India, the intricacies of what these clients should seek in their partners, the filtering mechanisms they should use for selecting the same, and how they sustain relationships with their clients in the long run. He utilized the forum to unveil his ground breaking theory of "Optimal Zone" which challenges traditional thinking of doing business in India.
Clearly, Dalip's presentation was very provocative and generated significant debate. He challenged the audience to start thinking radically differently about doing business with the West and why the "language" of conducting business had to change. He cited many examples of successes and failures and utilized them to prove his thought provoking ideas. His focus on cross cultural issues forced the audience to examine uncomfortable issues that continue to get in the way of creating value based business relationships.
Mr. Ellis of FMC Technologies discussed his organization's strategy for sourcing in India - services and goods. He also touched upon why they chose India, their goals, what they hope to accomplish and the challenges they face with doing business in India.
As the CEO of IACCM, Mr. Cummins presented the results of their extensive and in-depth research in the area of global trade with a specific focus on India. He also addressed the issues related to global agreements between trading partners and the methodologies to overcome them.
The session was very well received with some very lively discussion both during the conference and at the dinner afterwards.
