On December 20, 2007, ALTRA Magazine published exclusive and compelling photos taken from behind the scenes of the 2008 Beijing Olympics construction sites, as well as its surrounding neighborhoods, for the "Countdown to the Beijing Olympics -- Exclusive behind the scenes preparations" pictorial feature in their third issue - Winter 2007.
Obtained by ALTRA Magazine's correspondents in China, these photos were taken throughout various parts of Beijing since the very beginning of the Olympics preparations one year ago until recently. They are shown in four categories:
"The Bird's Nest" - An inside look at the official Olympic stadium construction site and its workers.
"The People" - How Beijing citizens are reacting to the changes brought on by the 2008 Olympics.
"Beijing, Now and Then" - A look at both the historical and modern sites of Beijing, and the changes to its surrounding areas; including the re-construction of low-income neighborhoods.
"Fortress Around the Forbidden City" - Images of Forbidden City under renovation and its tall, bamboo scaffold shields.
