Brooklyn Restaurant Holds First Ever Vegan Buffalo Wing Eating Contest

Sponsored by Frank's Red Hot Sauce and local businesses, Foodswings Vegan Fast Food Joint starts a delicious, fun, cruelty-free tradition.

Brooklyn, New York (PRWEB) January 7, 2008 -- Foodswings will hold the first ever Vegan Buffalo Wing Eating Contest, sponsored by Frank's Red Hot Sauce, 6pm on January 16th. Contestants, herbivore and omnivore alike, have registered to battle for prizes donated by Franks Red Hot and local businesses, including cash, T-shirts, tattoo gift cards and of course, ultimate bragging rights.

The rules are simple: 10 pre-registered contestants will have 15 minutes to devour as many fiery hot veggie wings as they can - anyone who pukes is disqualified. Contestants will have to eat the wings to the "bone" (or more literally, to the wooden stick), with only water available.

The bright, colorful restaurant is known among neighborhood regulars and vegans worldwide for its non-meat, cruelty-free, fast food. The restaurant has received accolades since its opening 3 years ago, including being voted best Vegetarian Eats by AOL's Cityguide, and has been featured in Vegetarian Times, web sites, blogs, etc..

The greasy concoctions created by owner and head chef Freedom Tripodi, are amazingly accurate imitations of their animal filled counterparts. Buffalo wings are the most popular item on the menu. Sam Champion of Eyewitness News said the wings at Foodswings were "some of the best fried chicken I ever ate. And it's not even chicken."

While none of the competitors thus far are professional eaters, each contestant illustrates the unique, quirky and extremely diverse population of Foodswings fans. Brothers, bikers, hipsters, musicians and artists are just some of the people stretching their stomachs for the big day. Internet blogs are buzzing with contestants asking questions about training methods to insure they take first prize.

Foodswings is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 295 Grand Street, between Roebling and Havemeyer Street.
