The Parent Empowerment Handbook™ is a tool for parents and professionals to find the most appropriate residential program for children with problems. The Handbook is based on a national survey of leading professionals who work with parents with children with emotional/behavioral problems.

Lon Woodbury, MA, President of Woodbury Reports Inc., and a Certified Educational Planner (CEP), announced the 18th Edition (2008) of the Parent Empowerment Handbook ™ is now available.

"This annual tool for parents considering residential placement for their at-risk children was compiled from the advice of hundreds of practicing professionals," Woodbury said, "and consists of private schools, programs and Independent Educational Consultants with the best reputations for safety and effectiveness."

"Parents can choose any of the schools, programs or Independent Educational Consultants in this Handbook for their children without needing to ask permission from any authority," continued Woodbury, "making this 316 page handbook a leading resource for the Parent-Choice residential program network."

"Inclusion in the handbook is based on a positive consensus among successful professionals," concluded Woodbury, "and screened out are schools and programs with questionable effectiveness, severe controversy, punishment oriented methods like boot camps, and new unproven programs."

Each year, Woodbury Reports circulates lists of more than 600 private residential schools and programs and 300 educational consultants that are known to work with private placement to leading professionals in the field asking the recipients to indicate which ones in their opinion provide safe and effective services. The returns are compiled, and those with mostly positive returns are included in the Directory.

The Handbook provides a basic standardized description of each included program, and a series of essays designed to help parents decide what solution might be the best fit for their child.
