New York, NY (PRWEB) January 10, 2008 -- Tap Into The City, based in Queens, NY, is launching the NYC H2O Sports Bottle to encourage residents and visitors to choose New York City tap water over bottled water. The bottle comes with educational information concerning the healthful and environmental benefits of drinking New York City tap water.

Single-use plastic water bottles create enormous waste at every stage of their life -- 2.5 million tons of global warming CO2 annually from manufacturing, hundreds of thousands of tons of CO2 from transportation --and 85% of these bottles end up in landfills.

New York City drinking water is one of the world's best, and we can reduce our carbon footprint by using NYC H2O Sports Bottles and filling them up at the tap.
Sandy McKelvey, founder of Tap Into The City, says, "New York City drinking water is one of the world's best, and we can reduce our carbon footprint by using NYC H2O Sports Bottles and filling them up at the tap."

Unlike other popular sports bottles on the market, the NYC H2O Sports Bottles are made from safe, non-leaching HDPE plastic. There's been a growing concern that popular polycarbonate plastic bottles, often known by the brand Nalgene, can leach Bisphenol-A, an endocrine-disrupting chemical. NYC H2O Sports Bottles are free from this harmful industrial chemical. What's more, NYC H2O Sports Bottles are made from 85-100% recycled milk jugs.

The NYC H2O Sports Bottles are featured at the American Museum of Natural History's ambitious exhibition "Water: H2O = Life," in the gift shop. "We were honored and thrilled to be a part of this important event," said McKelvey. "We urgently need to break our bottled water habit."

The NYC H2O Sports Bottles are also available online at http://www.tapintothecity.com. The website has many useful links about New York City water, calculating carbon and water footprints, and how to determine what plastics are safe.
