Zermatt offers excellent off-piste skiing and the nearby Gorner Glacier provides visitors with breathtaking views of one of natures natural wonders. Chamonix, France
Chamonix is known as one of the best and most beautiful skiing resorts in the world. With Mont Blanc as a back drop and powdery off-piste snow conditions, its title is well deserved. There is no shortage of fantastic skiing venues with more than a dozen different areas to choose from - Les Grandes-Montets, L'Aig du Midi and Le Tour amongst a number that are within a short drive. For the more advanced skier the most famous and breathtakingly beautiful off-piste descent Vallée Blanche offers a 20 mile ski run through glaciers, crevasses and some of the most astonishing mountains in the alps. Off-piste skiers need to beware however, as avalanches are a real threat in Chamonix. If off-piste is not for you there are a multitude of ski runs and cross country skiing with gentle pistes linking Chamonix to the village of Les bois or further up the valley Argentiére where you can ski through pine forests.

Pamporovo, Bulgaria
Set amongst the magnificent pine forests in the Rhodope Mountains Pamporovo is one of the southernmost skiing resorts in Europe. The resort is situated 1650m above sea level and boasts 25km of excellent ski runs and 38 km of cross country skiing tracks. The world cup downhill runs are enough to test any expert and "The Wall" remains the most difficult ski piste. If that is not enough for the more advanced skier there is excellent off piste skiing and snowboarding, but be advised a local guide should be used as much of this is virgin territory.
