Gastronomica: The Journal of Food & Culture Honored By Saveur and Utne Reader
University of California Press journal awarded Utne Independent Press Award for Social/Cultural Coverage and also appears in the annual Saveur 100.
Berkeley, California (PRWEB) January 15, 2008 -- University of California Press Journals + Digital Publishing is proud to announce that Gastronomica has won the 2007 Utne Independent Press Award in the Social-Cultural category. Described as "…a perennial pleasure to devour, as satisfying intellectually as it is visually," the journal was chosen for its commitment to examining unexplored & controversial topics within the world of food, the consistently high quality of its writing, and its sumptuous production values. A special issue on The Politics of Food (Volume 7, Issue 3) appeared in August 2007, featuring important articles on food production, consumption, and hunger. One article, Julie Guthman's "Can't Stomach it: how Michael Pollan et al. Made Me Want to Eat Cheetos," appeared in the January/February issue of Utne Reader.
Gastronomica also appears in the 2008 Saveur 100, the magazine's annual celebration of the best from the world of food. Saveur calls Gastronomica "Rarefied but unpretentious, each issue is an artfully curated collection of essays, poems, art, and journalistic reportage.
