MapDotNet Server 6.5 Featuring Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 CTP is Released to Market

GIS Integration with Web 2.0 Mapping Platform Makes Major Advances

Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) January 16, 2008 -- ISC announces the release of MapDotNet Server 6.5, available for download on the web at www.mapdotnet.com. With the release of MapDotNet Server 6.5, .NET developers can now develop web mapping applications using their preferred spatial RDBMS including SQL Server 2008, Oracle 11g, PostGIS and ArcSDE ™. The two new database connectors for SQL Server 2008 and Oracle 11g are just a couple of the many new features in MapDotNet Server 6.5.

"The 6.5 release of MapDotNet Server has many exciting new features" said Brian Hearn, the MapDotNet Lead Architect. Brian explains, "One of the most exciting new features of 6.5 is the switch to Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) as the architecture for the core MapDotNet Server web services. The migration from the current WSE 3.0-based web services to WCF provides the foundation for aligning MapDotNet Server with Microsoft's strategy for the .NET Framework."

The 6.5 release of MapDotNet Server has many exciting new features
According to ISC, future MapDotNet Server releases will continue to follow Microsoft's model for managed code programming for application development, including support for Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and SilverLight.

In addition to the new query connectors and the support for WCF, MapDotNet Server 6.5 has other new features and enhancements including:

  • Server-side map caching
  • Log4Net profiling and event logging
  • Upgraded map renderer support to MapServer 5.0
  • Virtual Earth 6.0 compatibility and shape support
  • Improvements to VE Template II for better error handling and diagnostics
  • Improved coordinate reference system and query/edit/transform models
  • Native support for transforms not relying on underlying RDBMS

In 2008, ISC will also introduce two new products in the MapDotNet suite, MapDotNet Studio and MapDotNet Desktop Engine. MapDotNet Studio will be a smart client application for data and map service configuration (.map file) management. MapDotNet Desktop Engine is a developer product for creating custom standalone MapDotNet applications for Windows.
