Top Independent Printer Hopes More Companies Join In On Delta Paper's Recycling Program

Delta Printing Solutions has announced the start of a new recycling service. Staying true to their environmental goals, they have launched their "Delta Paper Recycling Program" with one of their major customers. Under the offering, Delta Printing Solutions will pickup obsolete or unused book inventory for recycling from their customer's warehouse on a quarterly basis. These items are "back-hauled" on trucks that often would return empty, thus reducing unnecessary emissions.

Delta Printing Solutions, which produces product manuals, books, catalogs, and directories, offered the paper reclaim program since obsolete inventory is typically either scrapped or customers would have to pay to have materials removed and disposed of properly.

As an FSC-Chain of Custody certified printer, Delta Printing Solutions continually evaluates its facility and processes to optimize efficiency while reducing waste and energy usage. This new program is a "cradle to grave" approach, which allows the usage and re-introduction of paper back into raw material.

"We monitor our paper mill's environmental processes and continuously evaluate our facility to optimize efficiency while reducing waste," says David Meacham, key accounts manager for Delta Printing Solutions, and the architect behind this recycling effort. "A lot of companies have corporate sustainability programs," adds Meacham. "There's a sense of social responsibility for doing this but either they're not following through or don't know how to go about it."

Materials to be picked up at their customer sites consist of clean unused books, printed materials, or board packaging. These items will be stacked and wrapped on pallets which will be transported to the Delta Printing Solutions facility for shredding and bailing. Delta Printing Solutions will then issue a letter certifying that the materials have been destroyed, recycled, and delivered to a paper mill for conversion to pulp for use in making paper.

In addition to this program, Delta Printing Solutions has helped customers convert their printed book products to use Delta 40™ or Delta 100™ paper (40% or 100% post-consumer waste content). These papers are manufactured in a Green E facility using 100% renewable energy and no chlorine.

Delta Printing Solutions is the largest independent provider of books, manuals, catalogs, journals and directories in the Western United States. For more than 50 years they have been committed to exceeding their customers' expectations through personalized service, state-of-the-art technology and superior craftsmanship.
